ACORNS

Welcome to Monday with a Mission

ACORNS

Several years ago, when one of the granddaughters was four, she came over with her dad. It was fall, probably November.

She came in the house and very excitedly asked me to come find acorns with her…ACORNS??

They are everywhere, was my first initial thought. – But I said sure, she said we needed special baskets to carry them so I searched for a couple small baskets that we could carry.

When the basket search was a success outside we went.

We found “special” acorns. Some had stripes, some with no tops…

We talked about them and how the tops are on them like hats, they are different colors, the deer love to eat them and God sends them like manna to feed the animals.

We had quite a fun conversation. She even named a few of the acorns.

Well, when it was time for her to leave, the basket was left sitting on the swing set, I called out to her to not forget her basket and her response was, oh, don’t worry grandma, you can have them.  WHAT?

It was then I realized that it was not the searching for the acorns, but the time with her that she desired of me.

Just like God desires to spend time with us every day. It’s not about the fancy prayers or the “scheduled” time we “allot” God, but it is where our heart is.

So, it’s not the acorns, but the time. Time you carve out to specifically to spend with Him, no interruptions.

Thank You, Jesus, for teaching us to pray. Guide us to carve out the time for You. To listen, to be obedient.  In Jesus name. Amen
