GLORIFYING GOD IN ALL WE DO
Welcome to Monday With a Mission
This picture reminded me of mornings. Giving someone a seedling, the opportunity to nurture, fertilize, weed, and harvest from nothing is like how we start our day. The opportunities that come with each new day are endless.
“How will You use me today, God?”
Mornings are glorious!
I find it difficult to lay in bed much longer than when my eyes first open in the morning. The quietness of the beginning of a new day as I head to my meeting place with the Lord, is precious to me.
I look forward to watching the sun rise, the birds come searching for food, the rooster’s alarm, the crisp leaves falling from the trees and the sounds of a new day.
Yes, I know mornings are not for everyone.
There are those of us who squeeze in every extra few minutes they can under the comforting weight of the covers and the cloudy softness of the pillow. They wonder how someone can just get up without hitting the snooze a couple times.
But, however and whenever we rise for the day the first item of business should be to give glory to God for the day.
My Prayer Pocket I use in the mornings guides me through my prayer time. Each card starts with a verse of Scripture. On the back of the card are prayer points which I make personal each day by adding important current and specific prayer requests.
One of those requests is to try my best to glorify God in all I do.
You know, that is not always easy.
I have emotional ups and downs, issues that take me by surprise, grief which clouds my thinking, questions about my ability to tell others about Christ.
But, no matter how, why and when these issues come about my first instinct is not always to turn to God.
It should be, without any question.
So, how do I make it my first choice? How do I stop and come to Him with my troubles?
When I turn to God first, I glorify Him because I am waiting for His answer.
In researching “how” to glorify God daily I came across several good references.
One was from Lifeway.com.
1 CORINTHIANS 10:31
“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.”
So, you see, based on His Word, yes, we are all called to glorify God in everything we do, but how do we do that?
PRAISE HIM WITH YOUR LIPS…
“My lips will glorify you” (Ps 63:3). The noblest use of our tongues is to give praise to God.
There have been times when my first reaction to a time of trauma has not been to praise God, but to fall on my knees in tears. I am absorbed in my thoughts of what do “I” do?” Not, “God” what should I do?
As I grow in my faith and mature in my walk with God the ease of praising Him during the troubled times comes quicker with each valley. In praising God during these times I find myself available to listen.
Recently I was faced with a decision that would bring sadness, even anger, to several people no matter the path I choose.
When I went to God He gave me the ability to understand the importance of “waiting”. Yes, waiting.
The decision did not have to be made right then. I did not have all the information. To jump into a pond of quick sand was unnecessary. I needed more information. I needed time. God showed me how to wait.
And in the time of waiting, I must praise Him for what He will do.
Sometimes the peace we seek is right there, waiting for us to ask for it.
When you feel like your world may be falling apart stop, drop, and pray. Pray for the peace.
Most of all – Praise Him.
OBEY HIS WORD…
“But whoever obeys his word, truly in this person the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him. The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked.” (1 John 2:5-6)
We cannot understand God’s love for us unless we follow His ways. The truth, His ways, are found in the Bible. When we grow that intimate relationship with Christ through God’s Word, it is then we can walk hand in hand with Him and know when we follow His Word we can glorify Him through what we do.
We will desire to be like Jesus. What does it look like to be like Jesus? Love, forgive, serve.
PRAY IN JESUS’ NAME…
“Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13).
To pray in Jesus’ name is to align our prayers and desires with God’s purposes.
We acknowledge that our access to God while in prayer comes ONLY through Jesus.
As sinners, we are separated from God, BUT JESUS.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!” (Psalm 139:23-24)
God’s desires for us will be our desires when we praise Him in our most troubling times.
As we ask, in Jesus name, to guide us and then listen. We will know and feel God’s presence as we discern the enemy from the truth.
Thank You, God, for Your Word. Thank You for telling us, showing us, and commanding us to praise You. As we praise You, guide us to know the importance of daily glorifying You in everything we do. In Jesus name. Amen
